IPL, DPL and BBL: how light technologies differ

IPL, DPL and BBL are all light-based technologies, but they differ in positioning, spectrum tuning and the services a salon can sell to clients.

General principle

All these technologies use light energy absorbed by skin chromophores: melanin, hemoglobin or hair follicle structures. Filters help select the range for the task.

One device can cover several services, but the result depends on parameters, cooling, skin condition and specialist training.

Practical difference

IPL is the broader name for intense pulsed light. DPL is usually positioned as a narrower and more precise range for specific procedures. BBL is used as an advanced platform for photorejuvenation, pigmentation and vascular concerns.

For the client, the abbreviation matters less than a clear result: skin tone, pigmentation, redness, texture, comfort and safety.

How to choose equipment

If a salon wants to expand its menu beyond hair removal, a light platform can be a strong solution. Look at filters, cooling, lamp lifetime, ergonomics and how easily the team can be trained.

For stronger expertise, equipment sales should be supported by specialist materials: protocols, consultation scripts and clear explanations of client expectations.
